Yes, I definitely have a case of the winter blues and I don’t mean the color blue. My creative side for fashion or anything for that matter has been a difficult task in this dreadful weather of ours. Don’t get me wrong, I think the snow is beautiful and bright but enough is enough. I feel as though every time I look outside it is snowing and did I mention how cold it has been? I feel as though someone moved me to Alaska without my knowledge. All of the designers and fashion websites want to show us the spring fashion trends and all I can think of is how many turtlenecks I can put on fashionably with Uggs. Speaking of Uggs, If i want to go outside and play in the snow with the kids in this weather, the Uggs just don’t cut it. I have been eying the Sorel Joan of Arctic boots for well over a year now. I should have purchased them before this crazy weather hit us because now I can not find them anywhere in my size. There for my time outside is limited for now, but I am sure to have a cozy fire in the fireplace and some hot cocoa for everyone else when they come in.
These are some quick photos I took of the outside of our house. In case you were at all curious, those kids are not eskimos, they are my children pretending they are in there igloo that Daddy made them. I enjoyed the moment through my camera lens. The smile on their faces is a definite cure for these winter blues.

I’m a big believer in thinking positively about all situations once you get your wise mind to do so. The positive direction I am taking is all of the great winter sales that are going on. Take advantage of getting yourself a fabulous pair of boots that you have been eying but perhaps couldn’t bring yourself to spend or didn’t have the means to spend that much. Here are just a few great winter deals I have found.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Is it just I that finds the Holidays extremely exhausting? We are constantly on the go, our minds are spinning with tasks to get done, the house and tree to decorate, presents to buy, places to go, parties to throw. We are nonstop and our adrenaline is in overdrive because we know it has to get done. Not to mention the alcohol and food intake. Then the holidays end and we crash. Our body is telling us to stop and rest. We are exhausted, some of us get sick because our immune system is weak. We wonder why are we doing all of this. Yet we look back and smile at the laughter, the tears, and the memories that we have shared with our friends and our family. We then say to ourselves, it was all worth it!!

Jen and I decided to host a holiday party for our service league this year at her house. I told her she was crazy, she had just decided to remodel a part of her house. Now her project was in overdrive. Speaking of stress. She was remodeling, planning a party, and doing the typical crazy holiday stuff we all go through. On top of it all, we decided to throw a “red carpet” themed party. We stated it in such a way that the attire could be anywhere from June Cleaver to Lady Gaga to just being yourself. Jen and I had this “bright” idea that we would be creative and make our dresses. One problem…we don’t sew. Thankfully her wonderful Mother and Sister do sew. Through many of hours of shopping all over the place, we finally ended up creating our dresses out of a winter white satin lingerie gown, our petticoats from our wedding dresses and tulle. Although we added this extra stress on ourselves, we did have fun creating our holiday attire. The nice thing about house parties is you can wear almost anything and feel much more comfortable than you would if you were going out. I would definitely recommend a red carpet themed party.
We made it through the holidays and enjoyed it all! We look forward to the many fun fashionable finds and creations 2011 brings us.

Wishing all of you the very best this New Year!

This year for Halloween, Jen and her family came to our neighborhood to trick or treat. I live in a neighborhood with many children. Therefor it is always a great time for the kids! The men drive around with hay filled trailers hooked to there quads and a drink in hand directing the kids from house to house. We walk, with drink in hand, making sure our children are safe and catching up on each others busy lives. The kids walk, run, or ride, house to house, shouting “trick or treat” while trying to fill their bags full of candy. While we stayed warm with our drink of choice, mulled cider and Captain Morgans Rum, followed by a warm fire after the festivities, the kids sifted through there pounds of candy working on their sugar high.

Usually, I do not personally participate in the dressing up part of Halloween. This year, my son and daughter, have been obsessed a bit with the Star Wars Movies. My son, or Luke Skywalker, told me I should be Padmé Amidala . Apparently Padmé is Luke and Princess Leia’s Mom. My daughter had plans, and a costume, to be Princess Tiana from the Princess and the Frog. We even had a cute frog costume for our little dog. She put on the princess costume for her school party and seemed sad. When I asked her what was wrong, she said she really wanted to be princess Leia. I decided to get creative and put together and outfit for her and I mostly from items we already owned. My Son and daughter were ecstatic! How could I refuse.

Jen has the fun job of creating cute costumes that are twin related. She always has such great ideas! This year was no different. She made the Kitten and the Dog costumes. I was not only impressed by the outfits alone, but she also painted their faces herself! Although her son was a dog, my son tried to convince him that he could be Chewbacca from Star Wars and they preceded to have light savor fights throughout the entire night.

There is nothing better than spending the holidays with family and friends and watching our children laugh and smile all night!

We hope you all had a safe and Happy Holloween!

Many of us may shy away from the ever so trendy leather and faux leather pants. You may think you could never pull them off, they are not you, or simply not knowing how to wear them without looking like a cheap hooker. I purchased a pair about a year ago and have put them on about 6 times and never once ended up wearing them…until today. I finally felt comfortable, or maybe just found my comfort zone as to how to wear them. I love the look of pairing different fabrics. My favorite right now is a satin or silk top with a cashmere or angora sweater. Also, leather pants with a cashmere or angora sweater. I believe the sweater softens the leather look of the pants, giving them a more comfortable yet still sexy look.

My intention was to find a military type jacket. One that was trendy, yet still feminine with a vintage feel. I decided to check one of our favorite sites, ASOS.com. Of course they had exactly what I was looking for. In fact, even better.

During my search for this particular jacket, I found myself in love with many more. From the latest trends of the military trench to the traditional Mac. Let’s also not forget about the gorgeous furs they offer just in time for the winter season. You definitely need to take some time and travel through their site. These coats are only a few of the many fantastic finds. The only problem I see is the difficult decision we will all have to make as to which one we will choose!

Although we love the warm summers here in the Midwest, we also appreciate the different seasons. Lets face it…..we love fashion! Different seasons means different styles. Neither of us are partial to the dreadful cold winter days. We still love to be outside, but only when we are warm. Which is why you will most likely see us in our Northface jackets and traditional Ugg boots on those days. Not the most fashionable look, but we are warm! Last year, we looked into purchasing the tall Ugg boots, but found that we didn’t love them. They made our feet look like mushrooms, or something like that. To spend that kind of money on boots that we didn’t “need” and didn’t “love” seemed foolish. Then, one day, we went to a football tailgating party and our good friend was wearing the Bronx Reno boot that Jennifer Aniston was seen in. Our obsession began, but of course, we could not find our size nor the color we loved anywhere. We eventually gave up…until we were browsing through the ASOS website and …..there they were!! We immediately ordered them and couldn’t wait for them to arrive, even if the weather is still in the 70′s. We love them. They are warm, comfortable and more fitted!

Fall has officially arrived, yet this week in Michigan the days have still felt like summer. Although the weather is warm, our summer clothes are officially put away and the fall wardrobe has taken their place. We did, however, keep out a few pair of versatile shorts to get us through this transitional period. Curious as to how we might wear our shorts in the fall? We dug through our closets, created some outfits and took photos of our end results.

Recently, we had a request on what to wear in the big city. Not only do we keep ourselves up on “city wear” but we recently had a friend return from New York City after attending Fashions Night Out….which by the way we lived vicariously through her. As most of us know, New York City is known for fashion and also their always classic colors of blacks, grays and whites. As you will notice, we have selected these classic colors along with what we felt would be reasonable shoes for walking. We also layered our selections so that regardless of the weather, you will look great and be comfortable. We hope this post helps you create your NYC style. We are loving the great selection of boots. They are everywhere right now! We are especially obsessed with the over the knee boots and are having a difficult time making a decision on which ones we should get. Over the next week we will be posting our favorite looks with this fall fashion trend. We will be showing boots for those who have unlimited funds and for those who would like the look that they spent a fortune but didn’t have to break the bank to do so. Just remember the CPW (Cost Per Wear) when you are deciding on which boots to purchase! Most of these boots you could have for many years, so some things might be worth spending a bit more on.
While creating the outfit below, I had a very difficult time not clicking “purchase” on everything! The items are still in my shopping cart and although it is tempting to click “purchase now,” I think I would also have to deal with listening to the wrath of my husband. Hmmm…would it be worth it? Probably not. However, I am still in the process of looking for the perfect over the knee boot and will let you know when I make my decision. For now, we will continue to give you ideas on our favorite fall looks. Happy shopping!

Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is an unprecedented global initiative created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping. As you might guess, JADA is all in!

For one night last September, in New York City and twelve other cities around the world,(now including Grand Rapids) designers, celebrities, models, and fashion editors hosted exciting, one-of-a-kind events in stores open after-hours to the public. Shoppers were able to see Sarah Jessica Parker singing standards with Oscar de la Renta, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen tending bar, as well as Michael Kors, Justin Timberlake, Kate Hudson, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani (just to name a few) at various stores throughout NYC supporting the industry. Retailers saw a surge of new shoppers and increased sales, while customers relished the street-party atmosphere.

This year, the City of Grand Rapids in association with AK Rikk’s participated in Fashion’s Night Out. AK Rikk’s on behalf of the City of Grand Rapids was recognized as the official and exclusive organizer of Fashions Night Out September 10th 2010!

Last night, Jen and I attended this fabulous social event. Originally, our plans were to celebrate FNO in NYC! Sadly, because of some last minute events, our plans changed. Fortunately, thanks to AK Rikk’s we were still able to join in the celebration of FNO, Grand Rapids Style. This was Grand Rapids first FNO event and I must say it was a big success! Our last minute change of events caused a bit of disorganization on our part and unfortunately we were only able to visit a few stores and see some of the events. We were happy to have spent most of our time at AK Rikk’s store and A.K.A.@38. A.K.A.@38 is AK Rikk’s new pop-up store which featured window vignettes from Rag & Bone, as well as an installation by Billy Reid, GQ’s “2010 Best New Menswear Designer in America. I will have to say, AK Rikk’s did a fantastic job giving Grand Rapids the feeling of being in a miniature NYC. Shopping, fashion, cocktails, food, champagne, music, art and more shopping! What more could one ask for.

In the first photo, you will notice us next to an amazing ice sculpture bar with the FNO logo carved into it. On the top of the bar was another ice sculpture with a spout where the signature martini was pouring out of. Impressive. Speaking of impressive, the magnificent selection of unique and fantastic designer clothing at AK Rikk’s. With a selection including J Brand, Elizabeth and James, Rag & Bone and much more sought-after pieces, it’s no wonder I had a difficult time leaving.

The night ended with multiple blisters. Thankfully, we had band-aids so we could continue our journey to a delectable meal and great wine. Overall, we had a marvelous evening! The decision we now face for next year is will we attend FNOt in New York or Grand Rapids?
